THE DUSK CHORUS

Mid summer onwards I could hear a nocturnal cheeping, it took me a while to realise that outside my bedroom window is a tree full of roosting starlings. Starlings like to be close to each other for warmth and safety, whether flying or at rest. I love to hear their beating wings en masse as they take off in the morning. In the early evening they chatter to each other as they try and settle. There seems to be so many of them in that little tree it’s hard to believe they are a red-listed bird whose numbers are in fast decline.
